Stop Lever Function

What is the purpose of the stop lever located on the mower handle?

The engine stop lever is a safety feature regulating two engine functions:

  1. When the lever is depressed, a grounding circuit is opened which allows the engine ignition system to operate. Also, a brake is released which allows the engine's flywheel and the cutting blade to rotate.
  2. When the lever is released, the grounding circuit is closed which shuts down the ignition system. The flywheel brake engages and prevents further rotation of the engine and cutting blade.
